Unemployment Insurance

E-mail Print PDF

The Federal government extended unemployment insurance for hard-hit states like California. You will be able to extend your current benefits after the claim has expired. Please contact the California EED for more information.

If you are unemployed and have a Health Savings Account [HSA] this tip is for you. HSA's have been structured so that an unemployed (or laid off) person who is collecting State or Federal unemployment insurance can use funds from their HSA to pay for health insurance premiums and routine health expenses -- tax-free. While this is very specific advice, it goes to show that there are many obscure benefits in programs such as HSA's. Please ask your former employer about your HSA account if you participated in one.
